My Top 10 Versatile Wardrobe Pieces

Happy Thursday, friends!!  This week is just flying right on by!  Did anyone else get any snow??  We hardly ever get any, and the roads were completely covered!  You northerners would laugh at us getting so excited and worked up over 2 inches of snow haha!!  Like, everyone freaks out and buys up all the milk, bread, and chili ingredients at the grocery store.  Something about it all just makes me so happy though.  I love being snuggled up on the couch and watching the pretty flakes fall outside!

Now to the point of this post ha!  Today I wanted to talk about versatile pieces for your wardrobe.  These are items that you can buy and mix-and-match with other clothing pieces to make a ton of different outfits.  When worn correctly, you can wear these items over and over again, and people won’t even realize it.  These particular items can help to greatly expand your wardrobe and also save you some money!

When spending money on clothes, I suggest splurging on items that are basics or staple items.  If it is something you will get a ton of wear out of, go ahead and spend a little extra money on it if you want, although you can also buy super budget-friendly basics as well!  These items will go a long way in your wardrobe, so buying a $25 tee from Gap will last longer than a $5 tee from Forever 21.  I seriously have t-shirts from Gap & J.Crew that I’ve had for anywhere from 5-10 years.  I also don’t recommend throwing a lot of money away on really trendy, fashion-forward items that aren’t likely to be around next year.  Insert Target, the BP brand at Nordstrom, or even Loft, because they have such amazing prices and sales so you can still be trendy for a fraction of the cost!  If you are going to splurge, make sure it’s on a good versatile piece!

1. A Trench Coat

One jacket that can take you from season to season is a classic trench. They are the perfect layer for spring when you only need a light jacket to keep you warm, or going from fall to winter when there is just a slight chill in the air.  They just have a chic look to them and can easily transform any outfit.  The classic color for a trench is khaki, but you can also find them in navy, red, green, a ton of colors.  They come in all sorts of retailers from Target to Burberry.  This specific coat will never go out of style, so it’s one of those items where you can purchase it on the cheap or shell out a few hundred bucks.  Either way, you win, and this coat can live in your wardrobe for years to come!

2.  Utility Jacket or Vest

Another everyday jacket or vest that can be worn so many different ways is the utility style.  These things are everywhere, and like the trench, you can also find them in an array of different colors.  Right now, olive is such a hot color, and I wear both my jacket and vest everywhere and with tons of different outfits.  You can layer them over this casual swing dress with some riding boots or booties, throw them on over a peplum tee with some jeans, or with a knotted t-shirt, leggings, and some sneakers or slip-ons.

3.  Nude Heels

Every single woman should have a pair of nude heels in her closet.  You can literally throw them on with anything, so when in doubt, go nude!! ; )  When the right color is chosen, one closest to your skin tone, it can elongate your legs like crazy, and even make the shortest of legs (like mine) appear longer than they are.  You can’t go wrong with a quality pair of nude pump, y’all, and if you don’t have a pair, you better get to buying!!

4.  Striped Top

Y’all know I love a good striped top.  Whether it’s a sweater, tee, tank, button-up, whatever it is, you can’t go wrong with a stripe.  You can layer them under sweaters, blazers, and cardis, or you can wear them by themselves with a good pair of jeans.  Add a heel, and you’ve immediately got a chic look.  Something about a stripe just makes any outfit immediately look put-together.  Here I’m talking about a 2-color stripe, like a blue & white, red & white, etc.  You can mix and match them so many different ways, so they are a super versatile item to have in your closet.

5.  Blazer

A blazer is the perfect classic piece that can instantly transform any outfit.  Add it to a tee with jeans and some cute flats, and you’ve instantly made your outfit chic.  Layer it over a basic cotton dress and add a statement necklace, and you’ve got a dressy casual outfit perfect for brunch, church, or a day of shopping.  You can pretty much top any outfit off with a blazer of any color!

6.  Little Black Dress

We all know that you can’t go wrong with a little black dress.  When in doubt, whether it be for a wedding, interview, dinner, always always fall back on your fav black dress if you’re having trouble finding exactly what you’re looking for!  You can add a pop of color with a necklace or statement earrings, as well as some bright or patterned pumps or heels.  With so many styles out there, you can look sophisticated, sexy, casual, you name it and there is a dress out there for you!

7.  White Button-Up

A white button up should have a place in everyone’s closet.  They look so crisp and clean and are perfect for the upcoming spring months when paired with a colorful pair of pants and a statement necklace.  They can be worn to work, date night, or a shopping trip with your gals.

8. Chambray Top

A chambray top is another classic that can be worn so many ways and always looks chic.  You can pair it with white jeans, tucked into a skirt, with black jeans and a leopard belt, or the Canadian tuxedo: with a pair of denim jeans.  They can easily be dressed up or down, so you could just as easily throw one on with a pair of leggings and some tennies and head out for a day of errands.  I also recently found the cutest chambray dress that is perfect for layering or wearing alone.  There are tons of ways to wear these tops, which makes them a perfect versatile staple in your wardrobe.

9.  Good Pair of Basic Blue Jeans

A good pair or two of basic blue jeans need to be at the top of your list when thinking of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe.  You can obviously wear denim so many ways, and they come in a ton of different styles and washes.  When you find a pair that fits you like a glove, it feels like Christmas time!!  You can’t beat a good pair that hugs in all the right places and lifts up your bootie!  I know when I put on a good fitting pair of jeans that I immediately feel more confident.  If you haven’t found your pair yet, get out there and keep searching!  I just recently found a pair of high rise Levi’s and Free Peoples this year that I am absolutely obsessed with, and I’ll link them both below.

10.  Layering Cami

A good cami is essential to have in your closet.  They are perfect for layering under cardigans, sweaters, and blazers this time of year.  They’re also perfect to wear by themselves tucked into a cute little skirt or with jeans and some heels in the upcoming spring and summer months.  They are one of those pieces that you can always find different ways to wear and therefore stretch your wardrobe.  I like a good silk or rayon cami when I’m wanting to be a little dressier and a cotton cami when I’m wanting to go a little more casual.

Thank y’all so much for reading, and I hope you’ve got some ideas of things you need to purchase for your wardrobe, or if you have these items already, maybe you got some different ideas for ways to wear them.  Either way, I hope this post helped you a little bit!  Have a great rest of the week, friends!!
